EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH

A K-12 curriculum based on Off the Wall & Onto the Stage will use the project as an example of interactive arts collaboration. In classrooms and after-school programs, schools statewide will use interpretive exercises to explore William Starrett's interpretation of Jonathan Green's work through dance as showcased in the ballet. Central to the curriculum will be an educational Guide and CD that put the performance in historical context and bring awareness and appreciation for a way of life and a rich piece of American culture rooted in authentic African traditions. The curriculum will also allow students to explore the process of creating interpretive images, dance and music.

Additionally, in cooperation with Jonathan Green's studio, the historic Gibbes Museum in Charleston is organizing a companion exhibition of Jonathan's paintings. This unique collection will be presented at a number of participating museums, accompanying performances of Off the Wall & Onto the Stage.
